BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) is a term relating to the operation of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and drones at distances outside the normal visible range of the pilot. BVLOS drone operations provide numerous advantages over regular line-of-sight flying.
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) have been a rapidly growing sector in the aviation industry over the past few years. North Dakota, in particular, has been at the forefront of the development and implementation of BVLOS UAS technology.
BVLOS operates beyond the normal visual range of the pilot. These types of drones have several distinct advantages of line-of-sight drones. They require fewer take-offs and landings, which makes them more cost-effective and efficient. Most of their operations can be automated and run with little or no human intervention. They can more easily access remote areas or those that are hazardous to humans.
North Dakota has been actively exploring the use of BVLOS UAS for various applications, including agriculture, energy, and infrastructure inspection. In agriculture, BVLOS UAS has been used to collect data on crops, such as yield estimates, plant counts, and crop health. In energy, BVLOS UAS has been used to inspect wind turbines, pipelines, and transmission lines. The use of BVLOS UAS for infrastructure inspections has been particularly beneficial for large structures, such as bridges and dams, where human access can be difficult or dangerous.
BVLOS UAS technology has the potential to revolutionize various industries in North Dakota and beyond. However, its implementation is not without its challenges, and the regulatory framework surrounding its use must be carefully considered. The FAA will continue to play a critical role in ensuring the safe integration of BVLOS UAS into the national airspace and establishing standards for its use. As BVLOS UAS technology continues to evolve and expand, it is likely that its use will continue to grow in North Dakota and other parts of the country.
In the event that a UAS operator experiences a loss of command & control of the UAS the 'Drone Tracker' is equipped to locate and recover valuable airframes and payloads.
It is also available to assist emergency serivces and law enforcement locate and remediate nuisance drones. https://morvair.com/
Expensive airframes, equipment, or payload may need to be recovered and the purpose of the 'Drone Tracker' is to track, locate and recover Unmanned Aerial Vehicles operating in the ND Beyond Visual Line of Sight corridor. https://www.vantisuas.com/
